Overview

Taradale is close to a rectangle on the map, a little wider than it is tall, in the north-east of Calgary. 80 Avenue NE runs along most of the north side, with Saddle Ridge beyond it, and at the north-west corner the line cuts south-west along Saddletowne Circle NE until it meets Falconridge Boulevard NE. Falconridge Boulevard is the west edge, facing Martindale. 64 Avenue NE runs along most of Taradale’s south side, with Falconridge across its western stretch and Coral Springs across its eastern one. Stoney Trail NE closes the east side, with Homestead past it. Every address carries NE, and all of Taradale is in Ward 5.

A strip of provincial Transportation and Utility Corridor land runs inside the whole east edge, between the last houses and Stoney Trail. It narrows to a band along most of that side and widens at the south-east corner, where it holds a regional park, an off-leash area and a pathway.

The south-west corner went up between 1983 and 1993, and the rest of Taradale filled in from 1997 to 2013. At the 2021 census, 17,630 people lived here in private households, and the average household was 3.9 people, where the Calgary figure was 2.6.

Detached houses accounted for 77 of the 121 residential sales in the twelve months to August 2026, with 24 townhouses, 16 apartments and four semi-detached homes making up the rest.

David’s take

The vibe

A 1980s corner and a 2000s build-out

The City annexed the western part of Taradale in 1961 and the eastern part in 1989. The first residents arrived in 1984, when the City counted 289 people, in the houses going up in the south-west corner on Taraglen Road NE, Tararidge Close NE, Tararidge Drive NE, Taradale Close NE and the south end of Taradale Drive NE. By the City’s 2026 property assessments, about 470 houses there date from 1983 to 1993.

Then house building paused. No detached house in Taradale dates from 1994 to 1996, and the City counted 1,541 people in 1993 and 1,503 in 1998. The main build-out began in 1997, peaked between 2001 and 2003, and carried on to 2013. The population passed 19,000 by 2015. In the 2021 census, 68% of Taradale’s occupied homes had been built between 2001 and 2010, a decade that accounts for 20% of homes across Calgary.

Households of five or more

At the 2021 census, 34% of Taradale households had five or more people, against 10% across Calgary, and children 14 and under were 24% of residents (Calgary: 18%).

Among owners, 84% were carrying a mortgage, where the Calgary figure was 65%, and a typical owner’s shelter cost was $1,940 a month, against $1,720 citywide.

Shopping on the edges

Taradale has two shopping centres, one at the south-west corner on Falconridge Boulevard NE and one on 80 Avenue NE along the north edge. The south-west one had a Co-op gas bar with a car wash, a Dollarama, an independent grocer, a liquor store and an eye-care clinic as of October 2026. The one on 80 Avenue had another independent grocer, a meat shop, a pharmacy, a liquor store, a gas station, restaurants and a gym.

The bigger stores and buildings are just over the line. The Chalo FreshCo and a Shoppers Drug Mart are on Saddletowne Circle NE in Saddle Ridge, the same strip that holds Saddletowne Station and Fire Station 32. Across Falconridge Boulevard in Martindale is the building that houses the Genesis Centre, the Saddletowne Library and the YMCA, and the N.E. Community Skatepark is on that side of the road too. South of 64 Avenue, the Don Hartman North East Sportsplex, an arena, is on 68 Street NE in Coral Springs, and the Falconridge/Castleridge Community Centre is in Falconridge.

Ponds, playing fields and the corridor path

Two City stormwater ponds sit inside Taradale, one in the west off the Taracove and Taravista streets and one in the north-east off the Taralake streets. Both are in City parks. The north-east one is set in wetland, and the City maps a few more small wetland and naturalized areas elsewhere in the community.

The three school sites hold 11 soccer fields between them. There are also two ball diamonds, and 11 park sites have playgrounds. Manmeet Singh Bhullar Park, a City regional park, is at the south-east corner beside 64 Avenue NE. A pathway runs north and south through the corridor land on the east side.

The fenced off-leash area at the south-east corner has a separate section for small dogs. It straddles the community line, with most of it in Coral Springs.

An association with no building

Taradale has its own community association, with no hall to rent. Membership is optional, and its phone and email are on the Federation of Calgary Communities’ member list.

Housing stock

By the City’s 2026 property assessments, Taradale has 3,316 detached houses, about three homes in four, on a typical lot of about 3,485 square feet. Next to them are 438 townhouse units and 392 apartment units, in condominium plans, and 212 half-duplex homes, each one titled separately from the other half. At the 2021 census, 66% of occupied homes were single-detached houses, where Calgary’s share was 55%.

The townhouse complexes are in six condominium plans on Tarawood Lane NE, Taralake Way NE, Taracove Place NE and Tararidge Circle NE, built between 1998 and 2013. The apartment units are in four low-rise condominium plans on Taradale Drive NE, Taravista Drive NE, Taralake Way NE and Taracove Estate Drive NE, built between 2007 and 2013. The half-duplexes went up from 2000 to 2006, most of them on the Taravista and Tarington streets.

The houses in the 1980s corner sit on a typical lot of 3,306 square feet, a little smaller than the later houses’ typical 3,498 square feet.

The City issued a building permit in 2024 for a six-storey apartment building of 135 units on 80 Avenue NE, and it was not complete as of October 2026.

The City has released 414 development permits for secondary suites in Taradale over the years. In the 2021 census, homes counted as an “apartment or flat in a duplex” made up 12% of occupied homes, against 4% across Calgary.

Where a monthly fee comes in

In Taradale, the homes with a monthly fee are the condominium units. A townhouse that sold in the twelve months to August 2026 typically carried a condo fee of $350 a month, and an apartment $468. That fee goes to the unit’s condominium corporation, and the condo documents show what it pays for and what the corporation has saved for repairs. Your lawyer reviews them as part of the purchase.

A house carries no condo fee. Taradale has no residents association or homeowners association fee. The post on homeowners association fees in Calgary lays out the difference between those charges.

The dearest apartment, at $289,000, sold below the least expensive townhouse, at $290,786, and the townhouses topped out at $417,500, about where the detached houses began, at $417,000.

For one house on one street, a home valuation is the better number. How an offer and its conditions work is in the buyer’s guide.

Getting around

Falconridge Boulevard NE, 80 Avenue NE and 64 Avenue NE carry the traffic along three sides of Taradale, and Stoney Trail NE runs past the fourth, beyond the corridor land.

MAX Orange, which runs as bus rapid transit between Saddletowne and Brentwood, uses Falconridge Boulevard NE. Its northbound platforms at Saddletowne Circle Station and Martindale Boulevard Station are on the Taradale side, and the southbound ones face them from the Martindale side. Inside, Route 61 Taradale makes a loop of the residential streets, and Route 70 stops on Taracove Road, Taravista Drive, Tararidge Drive and 64 Avenue. Route 23 (52 St E) and Route 38 North Crosstown pick up along the Falconridge Boulevard edge. Route 80 Homestead and Route 159 Saddlebrook stop on 80 Avenue NE.

Almost every street inside carries a Tara- name, from Taradale Drive NE and Tarawood Lane NE to Taralake Way NE and Taracove Estate Drive NE, so the full street name and its suffix matter when you look up a home.

There is no CTrain station inside Taradale. Saddletowne Station, where the Blue Line ends, is across Saddletowne Circle in Saddle Ridge, and Martindale Station is in Martindale.

A student living at home and driving to classes at the University of Calgary has a 31-minute trip, as of October 2026, from the middle of Taradale without traffic. Foothills Medical Centre takes 33 minutes. The Municipal Building downtown takes 26 minutes and Calgary International Airport 18.

Schools

Taradale has three school buildings, and every one of them is a Taradale designation. Nothing splits the community on either board, so every Taradale address gets the same answer.

On the public side, as CBE publishes it in October 2026, children start at Taradale School, 170 Taravista Dr NE, for kindergarten to grade 4, and move to Ted Harrison School, 215 Taravista Way NE, for grades 5 to 9. Both are inside Taradale. High school is at Nelson Mandela High School in Martindale (45 Saddletowne Circle NE), across Falconridge Boulevard.

Two of the three have an overflow school on CBE’s list. For Ted Harrison School it is Sherwood School, 2011 66 Ave SE, which is in Ogden in south-east Calgary. Nelson Mandela High School sends its overflow to James Fowler High School, over in Highland Park. Taradale School no longer overflows: CBE said on October 27, 2026 that it has space for every student living in Taradale.

On the Catholic side, as CSSD publishes it in October 2026, every Taradale home goes to Our Lady of Fatima School, 6320 Taralea Park NE, for kindergarten to grade 6. It is the third school building inside Taradale. Grades 7 to 9 are at Father Scollen School in Temple, at 6839 Temple Drive NE, and grades 10 to 12 at Bishop McNally High School (5700 Falconridge Blvd NE, Falconridge). Taradale stays with Bishop McNally under the high school boundaries CSSD has published for 2027-2028.

Before an offer, put the street address into CBE’s Find a School and then CSSD’s school finder, since either board can redraw a line. The schools resource covers how overflow placement works.

Ted Harrison School

Public, 5-9

Ted Harrison School, at 215 Taravista Way NE in Taradale, takes every Taradale student for grades 5 to 9, as CBE publishes it in October 2026. CBE's overflow school for it is Sherwood School, in Ogden in south-east Calgary. CBE's Find a School shows the current designation for a house number and street.

Nelson Mandela High School

Public, 10-12

Nelson Mandela High School is across Falconridge Boulevard at 45 Saddletowne Circle NE, in Martindale, and takes grades 10 to 12 from every Taradale home, as CBE publishes it in October 2026. Our Lady of Fatima School

Catholic, K-6

Our Lady of Fatima School, inside Taradale at 6320 Taralea Park NE, is the Catholic kindergarten to grade 6 school for every address, as CSSD publishes it in October 2026. No Taradale street is divided on the Catholic side. Type the address into CSSD's school finder to see it listed.

Father Scollen School, on Temple Drive NE in Temple (number 6839), teaches kindergarten to grade 9, and every Taradale address goes there for Catholic grades 7 to 9, as CSSD publishes it in October 2026. A street address in CSSD's school finder brings it up.

Bishop McNally High School

Catholic, 10-12

Bishop McNally High School, at 5700 Falconridge Blvd NE in Falconridge, takes Catholic grades 10 to 12 from every Taradale address, as CSSD publishes it in October 2026, with no alternative school listed. Taradale stays with it under the 2027-2028 high school boundaries CSSD has published. Before grade 10, try the address in CSSD's finder.
